Somewhere in the World

*Somewhere in the World right now someone is saying "I Do" <3*

The sentence was inspired from the necklace I wore yesterday; the one that says "Love". I think proposing to someone is the ultimate way to express one's love. Marriage is a beautiful thing, but being married to the love of your life makes it all the more sweeter. In today's world, a lot of people no longer believe in the sanctity of marriage, but I do, still.

My boyfriend helped me take the photo. We had to wait until the roads were completely clear before we got this shot. Insufficient light was a major problem, so I decided to edit the photo to Sepia.

I randomly came across the WORD Project, an initiative by Honeyhype.com and decided it would be quite fun to join.

It's the weekend and I decided to meet up with some friends for coffee hot chocolate. I wanted to introduce them to a nice little cafe my boyfriend and I went to last week. It offered quite a good selection of hot chocolate and home made cakes. Unfortunately, when we got there, it was closed. How dissapointing. We ended up in Cafe Nero which wasn't too bad, I suppose.

Peter Pan

Peter pan-collared dress: Primark
Skinny leather belt: H&M

Hehehe...I think my face looks funny in the second picture. I wasn't ready, but my camera went *click* anyway. Thought I'd put it up as a funny blooper. Besides, the picture is slightly brighter so you can see the dress better.

This outfit is a bit preppy, isn't it? I love the peter pan collar on that dress, though. Primark. What a find!

Time's a-ticking

Cardigan: Primark
Destroyed denim shorts: River Island
Pocket watch (worn as necklace): Portobello Market (London)

This was what I wore to class today. The weather was a wee bit warmer, so I thought I'd bring out the shorts though I still had to wear tights underneath.

I got the pocket watch from a seller on Portobello Street. This was way before the high streets started coming out with pocket watch-necklaces so the prices of these babies were still quite high then. However, this particular one I got was less than half the price of what the other sellers were selling. The catch? It doesn't work. Well, not properly anyway. It's a bit wonky and quite temperamental. I didn't mind at all, because I was only wearing it as an accessory and not really to tell time.

This was how it looked like, originally. All I did was break off the cover and replaced the chain with my own necklace chain. Yes, my heart ached a little as I broke the cover off, but I preferred to wear it with the watch face showing. Feeling guilty, I decided to keep the cover in a drawer.

My atseoul.com order arrived today and I'm really excited, so I've decided to share my haul here. This is not a review, but just a post to show you what goodies I got. I won't be showing everything up-close, just the extra cute ones. However, if you'd like to know more about any of the items, just drop me a comment and I'd do a proper post.

My ring collection

Today I'm going to share with you my humble collection of rings. It's not much at the moment, but I've only started collecting them 2 years ago.

If you'd known me a couple of years back, you'd never catch me buying rings. I used to hate wearing rings. I think this stemmed from several (highly embarrasing)experiences of trying on too-tight rings and having trouble removing them. Mind, these happened in stores (sometimes, in front of sales staff) and I'd stand there absolutely mortified with unpleasant images (like I'd have to wear it for the rest of my life!) flashing through my mind. I would stand there twisting and tugging and when it finally set me free, I'd walk quickly out of the store with what ever dignity I have left.

Now, I've finally accepted the fact that I've chubby fingers and only try on rings that are a bit loose. In fact, I like to wear all my rings a little bit loose because I still don't really like the tightness around my fingers.

I'm glad I feel more comfortable wearing rings now because it's such a great way to spice up an outfit. Also, rings are so easy to slip on as I'm running out the door.

As you can see, I don't spend a ton on rings and get most of mine from high street stores. I avoid buying online as it's always a gamble on the fitting, but if I really like it, then I'd get the bigger sizes or choose the ones that are adjustable.

Tip: If you've a ring that is much too loose, just brush on a few coats of clear nail varnish on the inside of the ring. Just be sure to let each layer dry completely before piling on the layers.

The Vintage Fair

1. The Vintage Fair

2. Handmade necklaces

3. Granny jewellery

4. To satisfy those with a penchant for handbags

5. The lady at this stall makes these lovely vintage-looking book bags from unwanted old books and fabric. I bought 2 from her last year and got many curious questions and compliments from friends. I also bought 2 reworked dresses from her which she made using old shirts. What a good way to add a new item to your vintage wardrobe and help the environment at the same time.

6. Leather shorts and vests.

7. Lovely detailing on the collar

8. Tons of men's shirts

Despite the snow (yes, we had a bit of random February snow), there was a very good turn out at the fair. In true British style, there was a tea party going on in full swing in one corner. People were nibbling on cupcakes and sipping tea out of china teacups; the proper way.

The only thing I purchased from the fair was this beautiful Halina Paulette Electric camera. I saw it sitting there amongst some accessories and felt as if I had to buy it immediately despite not knowing how the thing works. It wasn't expensive for a vintage (Google tells me this is from the 60s! Awesome!) camera, but I was rather skint after a bout of online shopping in January *shifty eyes*.

I was debating on whether to buy it or not simply because the seller wasn't a camera enthuasist and didn't seem to know much about it either (or whether it was even functioning properly!). I didn't want to pay for a broken thing. The rational side of me told me to put it down, but my hands just wouldn't let go. In the end, my boyfriend paid for it as an early birthday present. Yay!

I can now add this to my very small (but growing) collection of cameras. I downloaded the manual as soon as I got home and now I can't wait to get some 35mm film and start shooting. Hope it works *fingers crossed*

A birthday party

Convertible dresses are such a good investment. You're essentially getting multiple dresses for the price of one! Now if that's not smart shopping, I don't know what is. Even your partner who's slightly concerned about your spending habits will have to (grudgingly)admit that it is a good buy.

There are roughly 10 ways (if you're really creative, you can get way more than that) of wearing the dress; one-strapped, off-shouldered, strapless, halter etc. It all depends on how you twist, knot and tie the two long straps.

My version is ruched and is made from a lovely matte-jersey material. I wore it for the first time last night to a friend's birthday party and had fun playing with the straps. I finally settled for this and pinned the straps in place with this pretty peacock brooch with rhinestones. I got this when I went back to Malaysia and stuffed it amongst my many accessories when I got back which explains why the peacock feather looks so weird. Oops...

P/S: I'm sorry about the quality of the first two pics. I was trying to find a camera setting that would best capture the ruche detail on my dress. I should have kept trying, but it was really late and I was really tired, so I didn't feel like standing there all night. I need a new camera.

Jjang!

Skull and Heart 3-finger knuckle duster ring: ASOS.com
Once Upon a Time necklace: Dorothy Perkins
Peep-toe wedge boots: New Look
Owl necklace: eBay
Jjang t-shirt: Hometoomuch.com

If you're wondering what the Korean character on my t-shirt means, well wonder no more as according to the website, "Jjang" means "Awesome". How awesome is that!

I was in a society meeting once and we were playing an Ice Breaker game where we had to say/act out what we'd normally say/do when we are very happy/pleased about something. Some people were going, "Lalalalala", "Memememe", "YES!", "Yay!" et cetera and without thinking too much, the word that sprouted out of my mouth was...yeap, you got it, "Awesome!" Haha...I don't actually even say it that much.
What do you say when you're extremely pleased?

Here's a clearer picture of my knuckle duster. It's my very first 3-finger ring and I'm absolutely in love with it! It's currently one of my favourites.

 [Pic credit: RDujour ]

Yes, indeed it is inspired by the Alexander McQueen knuckle duster skull ring. When I first saw it circulating around the web (on a clutch, at first), I couldn't believe how gorgeous it was. Alas, I'm in no financial position to buy the original and so I had to settle for this ASOS one. Still, I think the ASOS version is really pretty and much more girlier with the diamante heart and flowers.

Honestly, this outfit is all my current favourite items rolled into one. I have been wanting this pair of boots since last year, but then I hesitated, then it sold out online, came back in stock, I hesitated, then it sold out online, came back in stock, I hesitated...rinse and repeat. Finally, a 20% special V-day discount for students did it for me.

Stone bib necklace

Parka: Crafted from Republic
Furry cuff wedge boots: New Look
Studded bangles: Malaysia
Stone bib necklace: Portobello Market (London)

I love Portobello Market. You can find such good vintage items there. I was rummaging through a humongous pile of vintage jewellery on one of the street stalls when I found this stone bib necklace. I nabbed it immediately. The stones are really pretty in real life and the ribbon cord means I can adjust it to whatever length I fancy.

I dressed it down with a simple white tee today, but I'm sure it would look good with a dress on a night out.

Gnomeo and Juliet

Jumper: Primark
Skinny jeans: Primark
Lace necklace: Blogshop

Just a very simple outfit today because I was lazy and didn't feel like dressing up. I'm putting it up here anyway because the reason I named this blog everydayoutfits is so that I can document the outfits I wear (nearly)every day regardless of how simple the outfit looks.

Went shopping with the boyfriend and my biggest haul was from Primark. I stocked up on tights because my tights always seem to snag after a few wears no matter what brand I get. So from now on, I'm getting all my tights from Primark. At least my heart wouldn't ache so much when I have to chuck ém.

We went for a movie afterwards. We decided to watch Gnomeo and Juliet today. That movie is so cute! All the gnomes are so adorable I think I might get one now (even though I don't have a garden).

Off-shoulder jumper

Today's post has more random shots because I was trying out different camera angles to see which ones best capture my outfit and jewellery. This picture turned out pretty cool with the blurry foreground and sharp background even though my rings aren't clearly shown.

I was also running around my room trying to find a spot with the best lighting. I think this picture turned out really well as I was directly facing the window. I know it's slightly washed-out, but the jewellery looks good here.

1st day of term

Minnie Mouse jumper: H&M
Studded cuff: H&M
Skinny jeans: Primark

This is the kind of outfit I usually wear to class. My lazy outfit, I call it. Just pull on a jumper and some jeans and I'm good to go. Most days, I don't even accessorize. I wore this particular jumper way too much last semester. I am pretty sure my classmates think I don't shower. Hopefully, by starting this blog, I'll put a bit more thought into things I wear to Uni.

Black Swan

Necklace: Vintage fair
Ring: Antiques (Local vintage store)
Draped wrap skirt: Blogshop
Ribbon tights: Primark

Black Swan is definitely one of the better psycho-thrillers I have seen. It's beautiful, but horrifying at the same time. There were a bit too many cringe-inducing scenes for my liking and I admit I used the "peek through my fingers because it's less scary that way" technique a lot. Still, that did not stop me from taking note of the costumes.

[Pic credit: IMDB]

Aside from the pretty tutus and stunning white gown Natalie Portman wore, there were many scenes of her looking adorable in leg warmers. I love the whole leg warmer look anyway, but I thought it was especially cute when worn on just one leg.

[Pic credit: IMDB]

I also like this pale pink shrug she wore in several scenes. It made her arms look very swan-like. And there it is again, the one leg warmer, worn over white tights. I think the wispy wrap skirt completes the outfit to make her the graceful white swan that she is. This outfit was actually my favourite out of the bunch.

Will this bring about a trend of ballerina-inspired outfits?

On the 3rd day of CNY

Modern cheongsam/qi pao (Chinese dress): Blogshop
Black lace necklace: Blogshop
Red roses clutch: H&M

This is a Chinese dress with a modern twist. It's pink with black flower pattern mesh overlay and has a panel of sheer black mesh at the back. I chose to wear it with a pair of black tights so I wouldn't freeze my tush off while walking to meet my friends for a CNY meal.

The meal was great, but I had a protuding belly by the end of the night.
